Just off the coast of Brighton we are lucky to have a huge wind farm.
And it sits there just wanting to be visited.
So what’s a person to do. Especially when I can see it from my house?
It’s 9 miles out to sea which I know isn’t for the faint hearted. Sea changes quickly, currents, weather, stuff that scares me so I realised that there was no way I was going to do it by myself. So I joined the local Facebook SUP group and posted on there to see if anyone wanted to join me.
Well that was a mistake. I basically had the entire SUP group giving me lectures and opinions on how dangerous it is and why I shouldn’t go.
Luckily I got a message from someone who had the same idea. From there more and more DM’s started arriving from people up for the trip.
I think we have about 13 on our new WhatsApp SUP group. After a meeting in the pub one night we agreed to get a support boat and keep a careful eye on the weather to see when everything aligned knowing that not everyone would be able to make.
As it turned out only 4 of the group made it on the day when it happened – unfortunately I wasn’t one of them. But they had an amazing 8 hour / 21 mile trip.
Obviously I am gutted I didn’t make it but there is always next summer… and I have now met a lovely bunch of local weirdos who like to do shit like this 🙂
